Newcastle United, Arsenal receive boost in their pursuit of Moussa Diaby

Arsenal unwilling to move for Callum Wilson.

Bayer Leverkusen could sell a host of players in the summer, including Arsenal and Newcastle United target Moussa Diaby.

According to Bild via Sport Witness, Moussa Diaby could depart Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. The Bundesliga side could sell a host of players, including the attacker, with Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle United interested in the 23-year-old.

Moussa Diaby has been a player of interest to many teams since last summer. Bayer Leverkusen’s huge asking price scuppered any possible moves. The 23-year-old Bundesliga attacker is a glowing talent in the current scenario. A transfer to the Premier League is the likeliest scenario in the upcoming window.

Newcastle United showed interest in the summer when Eddie Howe wanted a top-rated attacker in his ranks. Bayer Leverkusen demanded around £60 million then, and the Magpies decided against making any move. His profile fits what the manager wants in his team, so he remains a firm target.

Newcastle United reportedly approached Leverkusen in January. They wanted to add a player who could play multiple attacking roles and resorted to signing Anthony Gordon from Everton in a £40 million deal.

The Magpies could return in the summer, as Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly open to selling Diaby, among other stars on their squad. The German side are eyeing a revamp as they could miss out on next season’s Champions League. Leverkusen could cash in if the price is right, which might be lower than what they wanted in January.

During mid-season, Leverkusen did not want to sell their key players, including the Bundesliga attacker. Those included Arsenal, who approached. The Gunners were reportedly quoted €100 million for the winger, which did not feel right for Mikel Arteta and Edu.

The north Londoners have him on their shortlist as Arteta seeks a new right winger in his squad. They did sign Leandro Trossard, but the manager wants someone to compete with Bukayo Saka next season. The Gunners are an attractive destination as they are clear favourites to win the Premier League.

Hence, their entry into next season’s Champions League is more or less guaranteed. That alone is enough to attract top names in the market, and Diaby is growing in stature with his performances for Leverkusen. A battle between the Gunners and Newcastle could ensue for the 24-year-old Bundesliga attacker in the summer.
