Everton set sights on Mohamed Camara

Everton have reportedly earmarked Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, Mohamed Camara, as an alternative for Idrissa Gueye.

According to Daily Mail, Premier League club, Everton are interested in making a move for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara in the ongoing transfer window.

The 22-year-old joined the Austrian giants in 2020 and has since then steadily established himself as a dependable player in the middle of the park. A defensive midfielder by trade, the Malian international’s performances have been promising, bringing him to the attention of Everton.

Frank Lampard’s side barely escaped relegation last season and also lost star striker Richarlison to boot. The Everton boss has a huge job on his hands to turn around the Merseyside club’s fortunes and will need to be actively backed in the ongoing transfer window.

One area that Everton need strengthening in is in the central midfield slots. The lack of a defensive-minded player to shield the rearguard has proven to be a massive weakness, and addressing it is a priority.

The Toffees have been keen on bringing back former fan favourite Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain and were looking to finalise a deal this week. Unfortunately for Everton, the talks appear to have hit a standstill, leading them to seek other alternatives, including Mohamed Camara.

Just 22, Camara is making waves with his performance for Red Bull Salzburg. He was particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League and has drawn comparisons to French midfield stalwart N’Golo Kante. Leeds United and Newcastle United are also interested in the Malian international, but Red Bull Salzburg have so far held onto him firmly.

With the Austrian giants holding firm, the onus is now on Everton to make an offer that tips the scales in their favour. A major draw in their favour is Camara’s willingness to link up with Lampard at Goodison Park. Beating other interested parties to the 22-year-old would be a coup of sorts for the Toffees.

Having already brought in Amadou Onana from LOSC Lille, Everton appear to be giving themselves enough options to deploy a double pivot. Adding Camara to the ranks will shore up a roster that also includes other defensive midfield options namely. This gives Lampard enough candidates to choose from should he opt to overload the midfield.

With the summer transfer window set to shut on September 1, time is running out for Everton to make their move. Should they land the 22-year-old midfielder, the Toffees will go into the season with a much-improved roster that will offer them more steel in defence.
