La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly initiated contact with Manchester City over the prospect of signing Bernardo Silva this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona and Manchester City are in contact over a possible move for Bernardo Silva in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese playmaker is keen on joining the Catalan club, with the Premier League champions demanding €80 million for him.

Bernardo Silva showed in the 2021/22 season that it does not take long for fortunes to turn around, as he became a talismanic figure for Manchester City mere weeks after pushing for a departure from the Etihad last summer. The 27-year-old playmaker featured 50 times for the Citizens while chipping in with 13 goals and seven assists.

But the Portuguese international faces an uncertain future at Manchester City as he wants to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. Silva’s situation has captured the attention of Barcelona, who had been keen on prising him away from Manchester City last summer.

The Catalan giants are desperately trying to get Frenkie de Jong off their books to lighten the wage bill and register new signings in La Liga. While the Dutch midfielder does not want to leave Barcelona, the Blaugrana will look to cash in on him this summer while eyeing Bernardo Silva as his replacement.

Personal terms should not be a problem for Barcelona, with recent reports claiming the two parties have already reached a total agreement. But convincing Manchester City to sell Silva has been a tall order for Barcelona as the Premier League champions have been reluctant to part ways with the Portuguese playmaker.

However, Barcelona’s hopes of signing Silva increased recently after Pep Guardiola admitted the 27-year-old could depart from the Etihad this summer. Silva will not come cheap, with Manchester City demanding €80 million to part ways with him this month.

While shelling out €80 million might not be a stretch for Barcelona, a move for Silva will only materialise if de Jong departs from Camp Nou in the coming weeks. With the Portuguese playmaker ready to lower his wages to join Barcelona, we might soon see him donning the famous Blaugrana strip.
