Anthony Gordon keen on joining Newcastle United

Newcastle United could part ways with Eddie Howe following what has been a poor start to the season for the club. .

Everton prodigy Anthony Gordon is reportedly trying to find a solution and working diligently to get him to join Newcastle United this summer.

According to The Sun, Everton prodigy Anthony Gordon is keen to join Newcastle United this summer, and his representatives are pushing the club to find common ground with the Magpies over a transfer fee that will suit all parties involved.

Newcastle United remain keen on bolstering their attacking options, and they still want to add at least a new striker and a winger before the transfer window slams shut. Newcastle failed to strike a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for primary target Moussa Diaby, whose asking price of more than £60 million was judged too high at this phase of their project.

The Magpies were expected to be looking at a host of other winger alternatives, and one name that has done the rounds for a while is that of Everton youngster Anthony Gordon. The report claims that Newcastle have been trying to sign Gordon from Everton for weeks now, but the Toffees are adamant about keeping hold of their prized asset and have slapped a £50 million on the 21-year-old’s head.

It is believed Newcastle are prepared to make an offer of around £25 million plus add-ons but that will not be enough. Gordon enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, with six goal contributions from 35 Premier League games. His exploits helped the Toffees narrowly avoid relegation to the second-tier, as they finished 16th and just four points above the bottom three.

Needless to say, this form and his high potential have attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, notably Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. Everton, however, are reluctant to sell Gordon because they do not want to lose any more stars after selling Richarlison to Tottenham earlier this summer.

They have been looking at the option of convincing him to sign a new contract with them. However, Gordon could be on his way out of Goodison Park, with his entourage urging Everton to reach an agreement over a deal that would see the player swap Merseyside for Tyneside. It appears that Gordon wants to move to Newcastle, and that is a big boost for the Magpies.

A move to Newcastle would be a step in the right direction for the player, with Everton already looking like a sinking ship from top-to-bottom, having been thrashed 4-0 by MLS club Minnesota United, and there are still no new signings aside from the free agent acquisition of James Tarkowski.

When it comes to developing young local talents, Howe is regarded as one of the best coaches in English football. If Gordon decides to move to St. James’ Park, his career could have a higher ceiling now that Newcastle have all the resources in place.

His pace, defensive work rate and confidence on the ball make him a tricky customer for any opposition. That said, with the Everton prodigy under a long-term deal with the Toffees until the summer of 2025, the transfer will largely depend on Everton’s asking price and Newcastle’s ability to pay over their £25 million valuation.
