Crystal Palace in pole position to re-sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United open preliminary contract renewal talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Crystal Palace are reportedly the favourites to re-sign their former player Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

According to 90 min, Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is nearing an exit from Old Trafford, and Crystal Palace are in the pole position to re-sign the defender. Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United in a €55 million deal from the Eagles in 2019 but has not been able to build up on a solid start and could now be allowed to leave on loan.

Wan-Bissaka arrived at Old Trafford as a promising right-back who was strong defensively but needed work on his attacking output. He started in fine fashion, impressing in the 2019/20 season as he started 34 Premier League matches, cementing his spot as their first-choice right-back at Manchester United.

While a solid showing in his debut season at Manchester United saw him hold on to his starting spot, his attacking output continued to be an issue in the 2020/21 term as well.

With Diogo Dalot returning to the club last summer after a loan spell at AC Milan, and a change of manager mid-season, Wan-Bissaka was relegated to the bench. He made just 26 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United in the recently-concluded season and was used only sporadically by Ralf Rangnick.

The German tactician reportedly advised the club to sell Wan-Bissaka. The 24-year-old is also not believed to be a part of new boss Erik ten Hag’s plans, with Manchester United said to be in the search of a new right-back. This could leave the Wan-Bissaka with limited game-time, and Manchester United are thus ready to offload him this summer.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was eager to sign Wan-Bissaka at AS Roma, but the Serie A club have now turned their attention toward Lille right-back Zeki Celik. This has left Crystal Palace in pole position to re-sign the Manchester United defender, albeit on loan.

Crystal Palace currently have Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne as their two right-back options, and Wan-Bissaka’s potential return could add some much-needed depth to the department. With Manchester United ready to offload the 24-year-old, a summer departure could be on the cards.
