West Ham United offered chance to sign Giovanni Simeone

West Ham United have been reportedly offered Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone.

According to The Times, West Ham United have been offered a chance to sign Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone. David Moyes is keen to add a centre-forward to his squad ahead of the next season and the Argentine international has emerged as an option.

Son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, Giovanni had his best season in terms of goals scored as he netted 17 times in the Serie A for Hellas Verona, where he was on a season-long loan from Cagliari. His performance in the recently-concluded campaign has put several European clubs on alert.

Along with West Ham, Arsenal and Juventus are also interested in the 26-year-old. The Turin-based outfit are targeting Simeone for a possible ‘low-cost’ deal, and expect that €15 million could be enough to convince Cagliari into selling him, as per Gazzetta dello Sport.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are eager to add a world-class centre-forward to their ranks this summer. They lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January earlier this year after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, while Alexandre Lacazette has returned to Olympique Lyon on a free transfer this month.

This would leave Mikel Arteta’s side with just Eddie Nketiah, who is reportedly set to sign a contract extension with the club, as the only recognised striker. Thus, signing a centre-forward is high on their priority and they have initiated a move for Simeone.

West Ham, on the other hand, have just Michail Antonio as the striker and with the UEFA Europa Conference League next season, they will need depth in the attacking department. Simeone, who has now spent six seasons in the Italian top flight has been on the radars of the East London outfit.

Now, the striker has been offered to West Ham United. The 26-year-old is eager to make a comeback to the national side as well and with the Qatar World Cup coming up later this year, an extended run in the Premier League could help him get into Lionel Scaloni’s plans. In all, the Argentine has scored 67 goals in 215 Serie A appearances and has also provided 20 assists.

Whether West Ham United opt take up the opportunity to sign Simeone or decide to pursue alternative options will be interesting to see.
