Liverpool submit €100 million offer for Darwin Nunez

Liverpool are reportedly ready to fork out €100 million to sign SL Benfica superstar Darwin Nunez this summer.

According to Record, Liverpool have made an official bid in the pursuit of Darwin Nunez. The SL Benfica starlet has emerged as the club’s top target in the coming summer and it appears the club are ready to fork out a mammoth €100 million to seal his services ahead of the new season.

Liverpool are facing strong competition in the pursuit of Nunez, with Manchester United also offering a lucrative bid worth €105 million. But the South American striker is apparently determined to play at Anfield next season, giving Liverpool a major boost in the race.

A centre forward by trade, Nunez’s performances at Benfica have been brilliant, to say the least. Since joining the club from Almeria, he has racked up 47 goals and 16 assists in 84 competitive appearances. His performances have not been restricted to just the Portuguese top-flight either, with the forward also making his mark in the UEFA Champions League.

Nunez’s performances against Barcelona played a key role in helping Benfica qualify for the knockout stages of the revered competition this past season. He even scored the decisive goal against Ajax in the Round of 16 and netted twice more across the two legs against Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

The forward’s performances have not gone unnoticed, not least to Liverpool, who are prepared to acquire his services in the coming summer. The Reds are likely targeting the young Uruguayan international as a direct replacement for Sadio Mane, as Jurgen Klopp looks to rebuild the attacking unit.

The Senegalese international has been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Bayern Munich seemingly emerging as his likely destination. Mane himself has hinted at his desire to leave Liverpool, and the Bavarians are willing to fork out €40 million for his services.

Liverpool are hoping to use the revenue to fund a move for Nunez, who is much younger and offers pace and dynamism in the final third. He is versatile enough to operate anywhere across the frontline as well, potentially making him an ideal strike partner for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

The Merseyside giants also brought in Fabio Carvalho from Fulham earlier this summer. Sp the further addition of Nunez can go a long way in making Liverpool one of the most exciting attacking teams in Europe next season.
