Newcastle United have reportedly made an approach to Real Madrid over a possible move for struggling 31-year-old forward Eden Hazard.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Newcastle United have directly contacted Real Madrid for Eden Hazard. The Magpies are keen on signing the struggling 31-year-old forward in the summer transfer, with talks between the two clubs already underway.

Eden Hazard has seen his career come to a grinding halt since joining Real Madrid from Chelsea in July 2019. The transfer to Real Madrid was a dream move for the Belgian international. But a spate of injuries has blighted him enormously, reducing him to a bit-part player at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In the ongoing campaign, the struggling 31-year-old forward has reached his lowest ebb at Real Madrid, garnering only 877 minutes of game-time across 22 appearances in all competitions. Hazard has started only nine of the 39 games played by Real Madrid in this term.

With Hazard not a key player for them, the Merengues are keen on offloading him in the summer transfer window. And Real Madrid and Hazard could be given a way out of their misery by Newcastle United, who are keen on securing the services of the Belgian attacker ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Magpies were one of the busiest clubs in the January transfer window, embarking on a spending spree to significantly bolster their squad. The results are there to be seen for Newcastle United, who have slowly pulled away from the relegation zone and will likely retain their Premier League status.

So it is hardly surprising that the Tyneside giants are setting their sights on the summer transfer window when they will pay considerable sums to continue reinforcing the first-team squad. Bolstering the attacking unit is one of the priorities, with Real Madrid target Florian Wirtz the latest player on Newcastle’s radar.

Hazard could also be one of the players to move to Newcastle, although recent reports have claimed that the struggling 31-year-old forward does not wish to join the Magpies. But with Real Madrid desperate to offload Hazard, something will have to give, and they will hope their talks with Newcastle progress well.

But while Newcastle United and Real Madrid are in direct talks, recent reports also claimed that Chelsea could re-sign Hazard. For now, what appears to be certain is that Real Madrid will be eager to pull the plug on the experienced attacker’s stint at the Bernabeu.
