Manchester United returned to winning ways after three defeats on the bounce as they beat Northampton 3-1 in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

 

Michael Carrick opened the scoring for the Reds via an indirect free-kick before Northampton forward Alexander Revell equalised just minutes before the half-time whistle.

However, it was United who came out as the stronger team in the second half and goals from Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford saw Jose Mourinho’s men march into the fourth round with a 3-1 victory.
