Real Madrid captured imaginations with their record breaking 40-game unbeaten streak, but the run finally ended on Sunday as Los Blancos lost out to Sevilla 2-1.

Real Madrid led their second match against Sevilla in four days through Cristiano Ronaldo’s 56th La Liga penalty in the 67th minute, and looked all set to re-establish their five point lead at the top of the table over fierce rivals Barcelona.

However, with just five minutes to go in regulation time, club captain Sergio Ramos headed Pablo Sarabia’s free kick into his own net to bring the scores level to 1-1.

The undefeated run was still intact, however with just a few seconds to go in the match, new signing Stevan Jovetic struck his second goal in as many games for Sevilla to bring an end to the streak at 40.
