Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick has agreed to a one-year extension at Manchester United, days after securing the Europa League trophy.

Michael Carrick has been underrated throughout his career. Since moving to Manchester United, the player has won 5 Premier League titles, an FA Cup, 2 League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Champions League title, 6 Community Shields and the latest being the UEFA Europa League.

The current season was tipped to be the swansong of the veteran’s Manchester United career. However, the 35-year-old has now agreed a one-year extension at Old Trafford – a confirmation of which has been released by the club in an official statement on the website.

The news has been greeted well by the fans, who took to Twitter to air their affirmation on the contract renewal.
