Frank Lampard’s reign as the Chelsea manager was off to a disappointing start as the Blues were handed a 4-0 hammering by rivals Manchester United.

Chelsea began the game much stronger than their opponents, but failed to convert that dominance into goals as Tammy Abraham struck the post early on in the game. Manchester United grew into the game and were ahead after Kurt Zouma fouled Marcus Rashford in the box, who made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Chelsea came close after United’s opener, with Ross Barkley drawing a save from David de Gea while Emerson struck the woodwork again, before forcing de Gea into a save early in the second half. However, two quick goals from Anthony Martial and Rashford killed their hopes of a comeback, before United new boy Daniel James added a fourth late on.

It wasn’t the managerial bow that Lampard would’ve imagined, but despite the scoreline, Chelsea had a lot of positives to take away from the game with Emerson impressing, while Mason Mount looked good as well. And here’s how the Blues’ supporters reacted to the result on social media;

A lot of fans showed their support to the manager after the disappointing defeat.

Criticisms were leveled at the Chelsea defence that struggled against the pacy Manchester United attack. Kurt Zouma especially was in for some ire from the Blues’ supporters after a disastrous outing on the opening day.
