Leeds United keen on Nathaniel Phillips

Leeds United are interested in acquiring the services of 27-year-old Liverpool centre-back Nathaniel Phillips in the summer.

According to Sunday Mirror via Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are keen on having Nathaniel Phillips in their squad starting next season. They have started to plan for a busy summer transfer window and are looking to reinforce their defence by signing the Liverpool defender.

Phillips joined the Merseyside club back in the summer of 2016. He was promoted to their first team in 2019 but has never really managed to cement his place in their first team. He has had multiple loan spells away from the club over the years.

Over the years the 27-year-old has only featured in a total of 29 matches for the first team. He spent the first half of the season on loan at Celtic where he only featured in eight matches. The Reds decided to recall him and then sent him out on loan to Cardiff City.

The move to the Championship club has surely helped Phillips as he has featured in each of their league games since making the move. While he will return to his parent club in the summer, the 27-year-old is unlikely to get the desired first-team minutes at the Merseyside club.

As a result, he could look to part ways with the club in the summer. With his contract running out in the summer of 2025, the Reds could look to offload him in the summer as there is a possibility of him leaving for nothing next year.

Leeds to push for Nathaniel Phillips

Leeds are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. They wanted to sign him back in January before he secured a loan move to Cardiff and they remain interested in his services.

The Yorkshire club are fighting for an immediate return to the English top flight. Their hopes of securing an automatic promotion did take a hit when they lost 4-0 to QPR. Irrespective of whether they manage to gain promotion to the Premier League or not, Leeds are expected to push hard for the services of Phillips.

They feel the 27-year-old could be a great fit for their club. His recent performances for Cardiff make it quite clear that he could be a consistent performer in the heart of the defence. With his contract running out in 12 months time, Leeds will look to secure a bargain deal for the Liverpool star.
