Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund played out a goalless draw in their opening Group F fixture of the 2019-20 Champions League at Signal Iduna Park.

Barcelona enjoyed the larger share of possession, but it was Borussia Dortmund who had the better chances in the game. However, a combination of some ordinary finishing from the home team and some top-class goalkeeping from Marc-Andre ter Stegen ensured Ernesto Valverde’s men did not succumb to a defeat on Tuesday night.

The German international made several saves to deny former Borussia Monchengladbach teammate Marco Reus, including stopping a penalty in the second half, although he did appear to be off the line when Reus took the kick. In the end, ter Stegen’s heroics helped Barcelona shut out their hosts and return home with a point in the bag.

The result, naturally, left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Barcelona supporters and they took to Twitter in full force demanding manager Valverde’s sacking;

While there was a lot of criticism leveled at the manager, the fans were equally in praise of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, as it was his heroics between the sticks that salvaged a point for Barcelona.
