Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Tottenham Hotspur are genuine title contenders this season.

Tottenham Hotspur have started the season really well, and they are on top of the league table right now. Spurs are unbeaten in the Premier League so far and will look to continue their impressive start to the season and put together a winning run now. But for now, Tottenham have earned rave reviews from Arsene Wenger.

The former Arsenal manager also heaped praise on Tottenham signings James Maddison and Micky van de Ven. The Frenchman believes that both players have added a new dimension to the Tottenham side and that the North London outfit have also managed to get rid of some of their weaknesses.

Wenger said on beIN Sports, “If I said after 10 games [they’d be] top of the league… You ask me, not a tricky question because I like always to say what I feel deeply, and I believe Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the league.”

“They bought Maddison, who is a great player and who is that link from low midfield to high midfield, and added some technical creativity to the team. They bought Van de Ven who I find exceptional. I find him absolutely exceptional. They had weaknesses there [at the back] and last year [Hugo] Lloris didn’t have the best of seasons as well. And overall, the movement from Son into the middle looks very good.”

When Tottenham sold Harry Kane during the summer transfer window, very few would have expected them to perform at a high level in the initial weeks of the season. Kane was undoubtedly the best player at the club and his departure was expected to weaken them severely.

Instead, Ange Postecoglou has managed to get the best out of his players, and the Spurs players have thrived in his attacking approach. The North London outfit have been outstanding so far, and they will look to continue their attacking approach that has rewarded them with valuable points so far.

Tottenham have a talented squad, and the players are only going to get better with time as they get used to the new system. With the right additions in January, there is no reason why Tottenham cannot sustain their current run of form. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can push for the league title this season.

Spurs were overly dependent on Harry Kane in recent seasons, but they seem to have found a way to perform as a team this time around. Tottenham will still need to bring in a couple of quality acquisitions when the transfer window opens in January. Adding more depth to the central defence and bringing in a reliable goal scorer should be a top priority for them.
