Crystal Palace have received a significant boost in their pursuit of RC Lens manager Pierre Sage.
According to a report from Football Insider, RC Lens manager Pierre Sage is keen on becoming the next Crystal Palace manager. He is all set to hold talks with the Premier League club over the vacant managerial position in the coming days. The Eagles are willing to do everything in their power to convince him to join them.
Steve Parish and Co. have prepared a significant financial offer to lure the 47-year-old to the English top flight. Sage, who took charge of RC Lens last summer following an impressive spell with Lyon, has done wonders at the Ligue 1 club in his debut campaign.
The Frenchman has helped them secure Champions League qualification and led them to the Coupe De France title. Lens were in the Ligue 1 title race right until the end, and his impressive work has not gone unnoticed. Sage’s man-management skills and his tactical flexibility, along with his track record in French football, are key reasons the Eagles want him at Selhurst Park next season.
Oliver Glasner is leaving Crystal Palace after guiding them to the UEFA Europa Conference League title this season. With his departure set in stone for months, the Eagles have been working hard to secure an ideal replacement. Outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was their priority target.
Palace are now going after Sage’s signature
However, he reportedly looks set to take charge at Liverpool, following the sacking of Arne Slot. As a result, Crystal Palace have quickly shifted to their focus towards Sage. While they do have other names on their wishlist, the 47-year-old is their top target for now.
The Eagles are reportedly ready to make a big effort to convince him. However, the most significant challenge will be to convince Lens to let go of the man who has done wonders for them in his very first season. The French outfit do not want to sanction his departure, and will try their best to keep hold of him.
Sage prefers the 3-4-2-1 formation, making him a natural fit for this Crystal Palace squad. However, the 47-year-old French tactician does tend to adjust his tactics depending on what suits his players best and the opposition. While he seems an ideal fit, the Eagles will have to put in a lot of work to get it over the line.
