Casemiro will return to the Manchester United starting lineup when they host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Manchester United will be eager to return to winning ways when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Michael Carrick has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Casemiro has resumed training this week and is available for his Old Trafford farewell ahead of his impending departure as a free agent this summer. Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte (lower back) and Benjamin Sesko (knock) face late fitness tests to determine their availability.
So, Matthijs de Ligt (lower back) is the only player in the treatment room after undergoing surgery on his persistent injury. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Carrick provided a fitness update on Casemiro.
The Manchester United head coach said, “Yeah, Case’s available. I can speak for since I’ve been here and met him and worked with him, he’s been fantastic for me, for us as a group, what he’s given us. I think the clarity helps of knowing the situation, for him and for us. For him to get his head in a place where he can give absolutely everything in every aspect knowing that it is going to come to an end at the end of the season.”
“Like I’ve said before, it’s credit to him for the way he’s gone about that. Because it’s coming to the end and there’s clarity with it, it’s easy to go the other way as well, but he’s fully invested, he’s fully supported us as the staff in the performances that he’s give. He’s obviously had some ups and downs like we all have in football over the years, but to finish so strongly and to see that connection that he’s got with the supporters is really good to see.”
Senne Lammens is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The backline will feature Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo in the double pivot, with Bruno Fernandes reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Benjamin Sesko will lead the line for Manchester United against Nottingham Forest, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha being the two wide attackers. Joshua Zirkzee will start as the central striker if Sesko is not fit enough to feature from the get-go.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
