Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Wolves forward Adama Traore this January.

According to Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt with a blow in their pursuit of Adama Traore. The 25-year-old Wolves attacker has emerged as a top target for Antonio Conte as he looks to bolster his options in the right wing-back position. Tottenham had recently made a £15 million approach to sign the attacker, but it has been swiftly rejected by Wolves.

The West Midlands outfit have no intention to offload the Spanish international in a cut-price deal. As such, they are not willing to budge unless their strict £20 million price-tag is met, meaning Tottenham will have to come up with a better offer if they are to get their hands on Adama Traore this month.

Earlier reports had suggested that Tottenham were weighing up an £18 million bid on Adama. But even that may not be enough to convince Wolves, who are relying on Traore’s sale to land new targets in this January transfer window. Wolves are indeed going through a financial struggle that has crippled their powers in the market.

However, the Wanderers have recently brought in Chiquinho from Estoril Praia. The 21-year-old is a winger by trade, and his addition to the team could signal a potential departure of Adama Traore, who scored his first goal of the season in the recent win over Southampton.

While Wolves often deploy the former Barcelona starlet as an out and out attacker, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has other plans for the explosive 25-year-old winger. Due to his pace and strength out wide, the Italian tactician believes Traore can be an excellent competitor for Emerson Royal at right wing-back, during the second half of the campaign.

That said, the Lilywhites may have to offload a few fringe players if they are to afford the Spanish international’s £20 million price tag. The same report from Telegraph suggests Spurs are already in talks with PSG surrounding the potential exit of Tanguy Ndombele in January, though the club are open to a swap deal as well.

Meanwhile, defensive prospect Japhet Tanganga could be on the verge of a move to AC Milan as they look to negotiate a loan deal with Tottenham. The potential departures of Ndombele and Tanganga could pave the way for Spurs to come up with an improved bid for Adama Traore, who will be itching to join forces with Conte during the second half of the season.
