Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is prepared to let go of expensive flop Tanguy Ndombele in the January transfer window.
According to Football Insider, Antonio Conte has asked Tottenham Hotspur to listen to offers for Tanguy Ndombele in the upcoming January transfer window. The newly-appointed head coach has openly questioned the player’s work ethic and commitment to the team and believes he is beyond salvation.
As a result, Conte has urged the club to offload Ndombele in January. The midfielder himself could be keen on leaving North London after being frozen out of the team by three managers in a row now. He was reportedly open to leaving Tottenham in the summer, but the club did not receive any suitable offers.
Since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2019 from Lyon, Ndombele has reportedly cost the club over £110 million in transfer fees and wages. It has indeed been nothing short of a disaster for the North London giants, with the player struggling to replicate his Ligue 1 performances in the Premier League.
While the Frenchman has shown glimpses of his talents, at times, he has often struggled with a lack of consistency. His off the pitch attitude and mentality has also been questioned by various managers, including Conte. In fact, since the arrival of the Italian tactician, the midfielder has featured in a combined total of just 23 minutes of league football.
Hence, a move away from North London could make sense for both parties involved. Tottenham, in particular, will likely be able to recoup some of the £55 million they had spent on the player back in 2019 and use the transfer compensation to fund moves for January targets like Nahitan Nandez.
As for Ndombele, a move elsewhere will give him the opportunity to potentially revive his career after two and a half disappointing years at Spurs. As far as his potential destinations are concerned, Ndombele was linked with a move to both Barcelona and Real Madrid in the summer.
Fortunately for him, the Frenchman is still courted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Earlier in the season, the midfielder had emerged on the radar of Sevilla while Manchester United were shockingly considering the Frenchman as a potential replacement for his compatriot Paul Pogba.
Tottenham, for their part, were reportedly looking into the possibility of a potential swap deal involving him and Houssem Aouar of Lyon. But it appears unlikely that his former club can afford Ndombele, who is more than likely to move to a bigger club this January.
