Transfer News: Barcelona table formal offer for Emre Demir

Barcelona prioritising January move for Thiago Alcantara.

Barcelona have reportedly submitted a formal proposal to try and secure the signing of Turkish starlet Emre Demir from Kayserispor this summer.

According to a report from Spanish publication AS, Barcelona are intent on securing the services of 17-year-old Turkish prodigy Emre Demir in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Catalans have launched a ‘former proposal’ for the attacking midfielder.

Demir started out at the academy of Kuvayi Milliyespor before making the switch to the Kayserispor youth setup in 2012. The youngster has made rapid strides at the Turkish club, breaking into the first-team in 2019 when he was just 15 years of age.

Since then, Demir has featured 31 times for Kayserispor’s senior team, scoring three goals and setting up one more. While he has largely been used in the No. 10 role, the teenager has also played in a more withdrawn midfield role and on the flanks as well on occasions.

Demir’s potential and progression has seemingly alerted Barcelona, who have now made a beeline for his signing. The Catalan giants have been focusing on strengthening their youth ranks and the B team squad considerably this summer, having seen the likes of Ansu Fati, Oscar Mingueza become established first-team members over the past couple of seasons.

Barcelona have re-signed former academy graduate Kays Ruiz-Atil on a free transfer from PSG, while another promising starlet, Yusuf Demir, has also arrived from Austria. While he was primarily signed for the B team, the latter has made a solid impression on Ronald Koeman in pre-season and is set for a first-team berth when the season starts.

Now, Barcelona have set their sights on Emre Demir of Kayserispor. In fact, the report claims that the Catalan giants have made an opening offer of €2 million for the 17-year-old prodigy while also offering him a lucrative five-year contract. However, any move would have to wait until the Turkish starlet turns 18 years of age.

What now remains to be seen is if Barcelona’s opening offer for Demir is accepted by Kayserispor or whether the Turkish club hold out for a larger amount for their crown jewel.
