Liverpool have reportedly completed the signing of the 17-year-old Ghanaian wonderkid Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, beating competition from several clubs.

According to a report from Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Premier League bigwigs Liverpool have completed the transfer of teenage prodigy Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from Ghanaian second division club Steadfast FC.

Issahaku, aged just 17, is already making all the right noises and is widely considered as one of the most exciting young players in African football currently. The versatile forward, who can play out on the flanks or as a No. 10, was named Player of the Tournament at the 2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he represented Ghana and has even been called up to the senior side.

Issahaku’s rapid progress with Steadfast FC and on the international scenes, despite being just 17 years old, had caught the eye of several clubs across Europe, including the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. And, it is now being claimed that Liverpool have managed to stave off competition from other suitors to complete the signing of the Ghanaian prodigy.

Liverpool have seen a number of young academy talent make headway into the first-team under Jurgen Klopp. The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Neco Williams, Curtis Jones are some of the examples of players that have become a part of the senior setup. At the same time, Harvey Elliott, who enjoyed a stunning loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in 2020/21, could also be integrated into the first-team at Anfield in the future.

So, it must not come as a surprise that the Merseyside giants are keeping a special focus on bringing fledgling young stars with great potential into their academy ranks. Liverpool have signed many promising starlets like Callum Scanlon, Kaide Gordon, Marcelo Pitaluga, among others, in recent transfer windows.

And Fatawu Issahaku could be one such player. However, work permit issues for the Ghanaian attacker might force Liverpool to loan him out to a different club until he becomes eligible.

While an official confirmation is yet to arrive from Liverpool, Steadfast FC president Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has confirmed that he has made ‘over €1 million’ selling Issahaku, as reported by Football Ghana.
