Alvaro Odriozola is on the verge of a permanent exit from Real Madrid, who are demanding around €20 million for the right-back.

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on Alvaro Odriozola’s situation at Real Madrid. The defender was facing an uncertain future at Santiago Bernabeu and now it appears that the club is ready to cash in on him in this ongoing January transfer window.

It is believed that Odriozola is not considered in Zinedine Zidane’s plans, with the Frenchman hoping for somewhere around €20 million for his services. A host of unnamed European clubs have already expressed their interest in signing the right-back, who notably spent half-a-season on loan at Bayern Munich during the 2019/20 campaign.

Odriozola eventually returned to Bernabeu in the summer, in search of more game-time. However, his omission from the Real Madrid camp is hardly surprising if we consider how Zidane has treated him in the ongoing campaign, with the 25-year-old mustering only 57 minutes of league football so far.

Even when first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal was struggling with his fitness earlier in the season, Zidane preferred Lucas Vazquez ahead of the Real Sociedad star as his deputy. Vazquez ended up making quite an impression and has established himself as a key member of the side, thus effectively ruining any chances for Odriozola to make a mark in the first-team.

Nevertheless, the Spaniard’s apparent demise at Bernabeu does pave the way for other clubs to potentially grab a bargain in this January transfer window.

Although Odriozola has never quite got going at Real Madrid, he was indeed one of the sensations of LaLiga during his time at Real Sociedad. And his technical ability, combined with some excellent offensive support could make him an ideal target for a number of clubs across Europe.

As for Real Madrid, the player’s potential sale in January could serve as a real financial boost for the club. Los Merengues have already kickstarted their business this month, notably sending Luka Jovic back to Eintracht Frankfurt on a loan this past week.

In addition, they have been linked with a shock move for Borussia Monchengladbach ace Florian Neuhaus, who could be an ideal replacement for someone like Luka Modric.
