Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Uruguayan outfit Penarol to sign highly respected teenage winger Facundo Pellistri.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are set to sign another young talent, this time from Uruguayan giants Penarol. The teenage winger will be joining the Red Devils, with club agreeing a deal with Penarol to sign the talented youngster.

Facundo Pellistri has also reportedly agreed a five-year contract with Manchester United, who seem to have beaten Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, according to The Sun, who have credited football journalist Sebas Giovanelli. The report states that Penarol had inserted a £10 million release clause in Pellistri’s contract after widespread interest in his services.

Facundo Pellistri is an 18-year-old natural right winger, which has been Manchester United’s achilles heel in attack over the last few years and under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has already featured 37 times for the senior Penarol team. Pellistri is known for his dribbling and acceleration, both of which are key areas for a winger.

Manchester United seem to have triggered the clause and agreed personal terms with Pellistri over a five-year deal. This is the second signing from Penarol over the years at United, with the last one being Guillermo Valera. If Pellistri does ever end up making his senior debut, he will be third Uruguayan to don the Manchester United jersey; fourth if they end up signing Edinson Cavani.

There is some contention on his potential arrival date at Manchester, with United wanting him to arrive this window itself while Penarol want to retain him until January. A buy with a loan-back seems the most probable move here but it will be intriguing to see if United can persuade Penarol to sign him this window itself.

This could mean Ole will have another option for the right wing despite Pellistri likely to be seen as a signing for the future. A self-professed Lionel Messi fan, Pellistri had announced his intention to take the leap to Europe in an interview in August, 2020.

While Manchester United scupper for deals near the business end of the transfer window, Pellistri would be ecstatic to seal a move to a big European club; one that has a manager who believes in giving chances to the youth.
