Manchester United have reportedly reignited their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot, whose PSG contract is up for expiry at the end of the 2018-19 season.

If the report from The Mirror is to be believed, Manchester United are likely to leave no stones unturned in their bid to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. The Red Devils have reignited their interest in PSG contract rebel Adrien Rabiot and are trying to bring the Frenchman in on a free transfer.

Adrien Rabiot has been considered as one of the hottest young properties in the footballing world. While the French international remains an enviable commodity in the transfer market,  has flown under the radar in recent times, with the player not receiving any playing time at Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG chiefs decided not to involve Rabiot in the first-team duties after he rejected multiple extension offers and announced his intention to leave the club in the summer. The Frenchman though, is still attracting top European clubs, despite not being privy to first-team action in the last few months.

Barcelona’s interest may have diminished since they confirmed the capture of Ajax playmaker Frenkie de Jong. But, the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all seriously considering a Bosman move for the 24-year-old.

Manchester United have confirmed Ander Herrera’s departure, thus diminishing the already skint looking midfield in terms of quality. Paul Pogba has been the only one to provide any creative nous and the Frenchman is himself being linked with a move away from the club.

But, the Red Devils are now considering the prospect of bringing Rabiot in to provide the creative push that Manchester United need on the field. Rabiot’s arrival would also ease up the pressure on Pogba to create chances while the two could build up good chemistry, with French their primary language.

Also, with Rabiot set to cost nothing, it would enable Manchester United to sign a quality player without diminishing the transfer budget and would allow the club to give Rabiot the contract he wishes. Juventus and Chelsea are other clubs named in the report as suitors that are considering a contract offer for the 24-year-old.

Both of them will be able to provide Champions League football to Rabiot, something Manchester United have failed to qualify for. But, Solskjaer would hope the stature of the club combined with the riches on offer could be enough to entice Rabiot over to Old Trafford. If it does happen, it will result in a straight swap of sorts, with Herrera tipped to join PSG.
