Liverpool have completed the signing of highly-rated Falkirk teenager Tony Gallacher, beating Barcelona to the left-back.

Liverpool have made an official announcement confirming that they have agreed a deal to bring highly-rated Falkirk teenager Tony Gallacher to Anfield. The young left-back, who was also on the radar of Barcelona, Swansea and others, is set to join the Reds’ development squad.

Tony Gallacher is one of the many left-backs that have emerged as prodigious talents in the last year or so. Like the others, the young Scot was also tailed by a flurry of top clubs as he broke through the Falkirk setup, managing to amass 26 appearances and 6 assists in the aforementioned matches.

The likes of Barcelona, Swansea and Liverpool were all linked to the player since the summer. But, it looked like Swansea had stolen a march on their comparably more renowned competitors in pursuit of Gallacher, with the Welsh club reported to have agreed a deal worth £750,000 for the 18-year-old.

But, as it stands, Liverpool have managed to land the wondrous left-back, that too, for a comparably marginal fee of £250,000, according to Daily Mail. The Reds have staved off competition from Barcelona, Swansea, Rangers, Manchester United and more to land the 18-year-old.

Liverpool already have Alberto Moreno and Andrew Robertson to guard the left side of the defence. But, the injury to Alberto Moreno had seen Jurgen Klopp’s options marginalised, especially with makeshift left-back James Milner being deployed in his more natural position in central midfield.

The Reds were also linked with prodigious Englishman Ryan Sessegnon. But, a deal for Tony Gallacher has been struck for a minimal fraction of the fee that was quoted in millions by Fulham in order to part with Sessegnon.

Gallacher trained with Liverpool the entirety of the last week, wherein he impressed the coaches, and it seems to have been enough for Liverpool to go ahead and seal the deal to bring him in permanently.

The fee means that Liverpool secure a potential left-back superstar for the future for a measly amount and can now be relaxed while watching the other top clubs clamour over the availability of Ryan Sessegnon.

The deal represents an impressive piece of business and while the viability of the 18-year-old will only be visible as he grows, there is almost little to no chance of failure, thanks to the nominal £250,000 transfer fee – a steal given the current circumstances of the market and one that Barcelona would be gutted to lose out on.
