Real Madrid have reportedly beaten Barcelona to the signing of highly rated Adrian Mancebo, who is set to join the Castilla side at the end of the season.

Spanish publication Marca have reported that Real Madrid have secured the signing of Adrian Mancebo on a free transfer. The player was also on the radar of Barcelona among several other clubs like Valencia, Sevilla and Fiorentina. But Los Blancos have moved to beat their arch-rivals and others to the Spanish youngster.

Mancebo has already passed his medical and an agreement is in place to oversee the arrival of the 20-year-old on June 30, with the player set to join the Castilla side.

Adrian Mancebo is a Spanish youngster has graduated from the Getafe youth setup before moving to UD San Sebastian de los Reyes. The youngster was a regular for the side that plies their trade in the third tier of Spanish football, with a return of 6 goals and 2 assists in 27 league appearances this season.

Mancebo is an industrious player, with the ability to play both as a left-back and a left midfielder while also bossing the attacking midfield role with aplomb. In fact, majority of his appearances for San Sebastian de los Reyes this season came in the attacking midfield role.

The player was contracted only till the end of the current season and there was widespread interest reported in the 20-year-old. As per Marca’s report, Barcelona were very keen to add the midfielder but Los Blancos moved fast to beat their arch-rivals to the youngster.

Both San Sebastian de los Reyes and Getafe are set to receive some compensation in lieu of training rights but Real Madrid are not obligated in any way to pay a fee towards the player’s arrival in the form of transfer fee.

Barcelona and Real Madrid both have been embroiled in a somewhat vicious transfer battle to secure the future of prodigious talents, be it local or otherwise.

While they target local players as evidenced in the pursuit of Adrian Mancebo and Aaron Martin, foreign talents like Santiago Bueno and Diogo Dalot are also a subject of interest from the heavyweight Spanish duo.

It would be interesting to see how Mancebo fares in the upcoming season and whether he manages to get a look-in into the first-team setup at Santiago Bernabeu anytime soon.
