Jurgen Klopp said that he was very satisfied with the performance of his side as Liverpool ran 2-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

Liverpool finally notched up their first league win of 2017 as they ran 2-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday evening. The comfortable victory saw Liverpool climb over Manchester City in the Premier League table to be placed 4th with 49 points.

It was Sadio Mane who brought the smile back on Jurgen Klopp’s face and the cheer back at Anfield, as he struck a first half brace, with both his goals coming within 138 seconds of each other to ensure what turned out to be a comfortable stroll for the Reds.

In the aftermath of the match, Jurgen Klopp exclaimed that he was very satisfied with the result as well as the performance of his side, while also thanking the Liverpool fans for creating a “fantastic” performance at Anfield.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp said, “Very – with both. It can be different, you can win a game and you are not happy with the performance. Tonight I’m really happy with the performance. The atmosphere [was] fantastic, you could really feel that everybody was waiting for a game like this again. So, for tonight everything is good.”

Klopp was later quizzed about Saturday’s win over Tottenham being the turning point for Liverpool in the title race. But, with Liverpool still 10 points behind Chelsea, who have a game in hand, Klopp retorted that they can’t get ahead of themselves and asked everyone to “not go nuts”.

He added, “What would you think about me if I would say now that I think we can [catch] them? Really ambitious or crazy? Maybe you can imagine that I’m not too interested in this in the moment because the only possibility to win something is to win football games.

“We started 2017 – if you want – tonight and we should not go nuts immediately and talk about all the rest. Let’s take it step by step. Chelsea don’t look too much like they could struggle over weeks but they should [so] that somebody can get them. I’m not sure if we [will be] there but we’ll try everything to get as many points as we can get from the season.”

Liverpool will not be in action again for 16 days now with the Reds not qualifying for the fifth round of the FA Cup, which is scheduled to be played next weekend. Their next match will see them play beleaguered champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium after a break of 16 days.
