PSG are reportedly preparing a mammoth £40m bid to land Liverpool playmaker Coutinho, who has been regularly linked with a move to Barcelona.

British publication Express have ran an exclusive that Liverpool are set to receive a staggering £40m offer for Coutinho from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The 24-year-old has been continuously linked with defending La Liga champions Barcelona but it seems PSG are prepared to pull out all stops to land their coveted transfer target.

Phillippe Coutinho is a 24-year-old Brazilian playmaker who arrived at Liverpool from Inter Milan as a prodigy who had failed to live up to his potential at San Siro. But, at Anfield, the magician has established himself as not only one of the first names on the Liverpool team sheets but also as one of the best players in the Premier League.

The Brazilian has developed into one of the most exciting players to watch and has been a huge part of Liverpool’s recent gradual resurgence towards being included back among the top brass of the Premier League under the able tutelage of Jurgen Klopp.

With great performances come great clubs, knocking in with a view to secure the player’s services. And Coutinho is no different. He has drawn the attention of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain among others, with the Spanish giants especially linked with a move for the player.

Barcelona and Brazil legend Ronaldinho himself hinted that Coutinho is likely a transfer target for Barcelona. But interest from the Catalans has not dampened PSG’s hopes of landing the 24-year-old. The French giants were rebuffed in their approach to sign the Brazilian last summer.

And with PSG struggling in Ligue 1 under new manager Unai Emery, they are planning to renew their interest in the talisman. The Brazilian, who is currently on the sidelines with an injury to his ankle ligament, is being eyed by the French club in a £40 million transfer in January.

Coutinho may be unsettled by interest from two European heavyweights. And, judging by the Brazilian’s comments on Barcelona and topics related to the club, it is no secret that the 24-year-old would much rather prefer a move to Nou Camp.

As per the report, though, Barcelona are willing to wait till the end of the season before making a move for Coutinho, which may hand PSG an advantage in the race should the French giants come in with a January bid. While Liverpool are in the hunt for the elusive Premier League title, Barcelona and PSG both have been dominant in their respective leagues.

So, chances of earning silverware lie more at the suitors than the present employers, something which could tempt the Brazilian into swapping clubs in the near future. Liverpool, though, are unlikely to want to part with the player in January, with the Reds chasing the Premier League title.

Whether the Reds would be tempted to accept the big money offer or reject it in hope of securing the Premier League crown remains to be seen.
