Arsenal are among a host of top European clubs reportedly interested in Sunderland’s highly-rated youngster Joel Asoro.
Swedish media outlet Expressen have claimed that Arsenal are interested in Sunderland’s U21 international Joel Asoro. The report added that the Gunners, as well as Sunderland’s bitter rivals Newcastle United, are reportedly monitoring the wonder-kid’s progress and keeping a keen eye on the developments surrounding his future.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had sent scouts to watch Asoro play for Sweden’s U21 side against their Spanish counterparts during the international break.
Joel Asoro joined Sunderland only last season after going through his early footballing education at Swedish side IF Bromma. He recently made his senior debut for the Black Cats in their 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough last month.
Arsenal and Newcastle aren’t the only clubs after the young starlet. SportsMole reported on Tuesday that Inter Milan and AC Milan have both registered their interest in the player, while British newspaper Chronicle added that the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Valencia and Villareal are all after the youngster.
Chronicle added that as many as eight clubs (including the names reported above) had sent their scouts to watch Asoro as he featured in Sweden U21’s 1-1 draw against Spain U21 on Monday night.
Joel Asoro is renowned for his lightning quick feet and composure on the ball. The teenager has also been lauded for his finishing prowess and is an exciting attacker to watch, on the ball and off it. Given the big club interest, the Black Cats could soon have a tough task ahead of them in keeping the player at the Stadium of Light.
Asoro’s stock has seen a sharp rise in the recent past, and the 17-year-old could soon see himself in the midst of a transfer battle between several big European clubs. However, he will be looking to keep his head down to try and impress his current employers, as well as his admirers, as he begins his journey as a professional footballer.
