Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has recently spoken about the striker dilemma at the Emirates, and that Alexandre Lacazette would bolster thing Gunners attack.

In their first game of the new Premier League season, Arsenal fell to a catastrophic home defeat at the hands of Liverpool. Despite having a relatively strong first half, the Gunners seemed to take their foot off the pedal in the second. Theo Walcott was named as a striker due to Olivier Giroud’s extended leave after Euro 2016. The English attacker did manage to find the back of the net, but was highly unconvincing for most of the game.

Arsenal relied heavily on the services of their talisman Giroud last season. The games he ticked, Wenger’s side looked like a formidable unit. But more often than not, the French striker went missing. Mid-way through the campaign, he went on a barren run and failed to find the back of the net for 16 games in a row. It was evident that he is not the right man to turn the fortunes around for the North London based club.

Wenger has been in the hunt for a striker since the close of the 2015/16 campaign, but has been unable to bring one to the Emirates this summer. Jamie Vardy looked set to join Arsenal after the club had triggered his buy-out clause, but the player decided to stay loyal to Leicester and turned down the opportunity to move to London. Similarly, Arsenal were one of the front-runners to sign Gonzalo Higuain, but were prised away by Juventus who spent a reported £75.3 million for the Argentine.

Arsenal have since been interested in bringing Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette to the club. Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has left the decision to the Frenchman and has suggested that he can leave if he wants to. According to Alex Bywater of Mail Online, the player has recently stated that he is open to moving to Arsenal, and that it would be hard to turn down an offer from the English side. Gunners legend Thierry Henry, too, has voiced his opinion about the striker.

“He will score goals,” Henry said on Sky Sports. “I don’t know exactly what was happening but it seems like they couldn’t buy him. Maybe he’s one of the guys that he [Wenger] actually wants to bring, but can you pay?

“If you want that type of player, you need to put the money on the table.”

Lacazette would be a good signing for Arsene Wenger and would tick all the boxes for what the manager needs in a striker. He would also be welcomed with some aplomb by the Arsenal fans, and could go on to achieve greatness at the Emirates Stadium.
