Tottenham’s quest for a new striker seems to be gathering pace ahead of the 2016/17 season. Mauricio Pochettino’s signal to the transfer committee seems loud and clear as he looks to bolster his attacking options in a bid to build a squad large enough to compete on all fronts.
Spurs recently announced the signing of Victor Wanyama from Southampton and they are now reportedly in the market for a striker. Mauricio Pochettino seems to be pushing for striking options to provide support for Harry Kane, who started every Premier League game last season. The squad lacks options upfront with Nacer Chadli and Heung-Min Son the only viable choices; neither being an out-and-out striker.
Earlier, Spurs had three bids rejected for Eredivisie top scorer, AZ striker Vincent Janssen. The Londoners’ most recent offer was reportedly valued at €14M which was swiftly rejected by the Dutch club. The Lilywhites, however, seemed to have cooled their interest in Janssen and turned their attention to Roma forward Antonio Sanabria.
Sanabria is another product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia having spent 4 years at the Catalan club before he moved to Serie A. The 20-year-old Paraguayan spent the last season on loan at Sporting Gijon and managed to grab attention through his impressive tally of 11 goals in 30 appearances for the La Liga outfit.
Popular Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has confirmed that the London outfit has made a €9 million offer for the Roma forward with Roma holding out for a higher price. There has been reported interest from Leicester and Barcelona for the young starlet. Russian outfit Rubin Kazan did offer the Italian club a reported €15 million, but the offer was rejected on the grounds that the player did not want the move.
It remains to be seen whether other reportedly interested clubs like Leicester and Barcelona decide to jump in the race with offers of their own. An improved offer from Spurs feels imminent as the difference between the initial offer and the asking price seems too low for the Londoners to not go back for the striker. He is mostly known for his ability to dribble and to score from dead ball situations; something which the Spurs squad have in abundance. If the deal goes through, it will be interesting to see how the Paraguayan is able to make his own mark among a plethora of creative attackers at The White Hart Lane.
