Cristiano Ronaldo urges Real Madrid to offer him a new contract

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has put all the speculation about his future to rest by urging La Liga giants Real Madrid to extend his current contract with the club.

Ronaldo’s contract with Real Madrid is set to run out in a couple of years time. The Los Blancos star will be 33 in a couple of years, raising doubts about his ability to churn out the kind of top notch performances that we have become accustomed to over the years.

However, the 31 year old cheekily signaled Real Madrid to come forward with a new offer for him, in a recent interview on Spanish television.

“Real Madrid would be making a smart decision if they offered me a new contract,” said Ronaldo on Spanish television channel La Sexta [via Sky Sports]. “I want to stay here, there have been good moments and bad moments.”

Various reports have suggested that Ronaldo has been growing discontent with the way things are run at Real Madrid, and might be looking for a move away from the Spanish capital. Ronaldo himself revealed that he was not happy at the club a few years back. Now, however, he seems to be content at the club.

“Four years ago I wasn’t happy here, but now I am and I can’t think of a better club to be at than Real Madrid, there’s no team like it. The other clubs can forget it,” said Ronaldo. “I’ve had good moments, and bad ones. That’s life. Four years ago I wasn’t happy because I didn’t like certain things that were happening.”

Ronaldo not returning to Manchester United?

Cristiano Ronaldo might be playing for Real Madrid right now, but he has a huge fan base back in his former club Manchester United. With all the exit rumours floating around, a move back to Old Trafford was increasingly looking like a feasible one. However, Ronaldo’s latest comments seem to have put the Manchester United rumours to bed.

Also, Ronaldo had mentioned in the interview that he was not happy four years ago (when Jose Mourinho was the manager at Real Madrid). Now it is not clear whether Ronaldo was unhappy with Mourinho, or other forces operating at the club. However, if his countryman was the reason for his displeasure, it seems even more likely that Ronaldo will go back to Manchester United, where Mourinho is tipped as the favourite to take over as the new manager.
