Manchester United are said to be looking for ways to  boost their midfield, and are looking at Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez as a potential signing, according to reports from England and Spain.

Rodriguez has reportedly not been too happy about his current predicament at Real Madrid, after having started in just 14 La Liga matches so far this season. According to reports from Spain, Los Blancos are also not averse to selling off their Colombian star if they get the right price for him.

“All I can say is that Real Madrid are more than happy to sell him if they get the right amount of money,” said reputed Spanish journalist Guillem Balague to Sky Sports.

Manchester United have been struggling to create chances, with the likes of Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, and Morgan Schneiderlin failing to impress in their respective midfield roles.

The Red Devils have not been performing up to the mark this season, and that has led many to believe that manager Louis van Gaal will get the sack at the end of the current campaign. His prospective replacement is largely believed to be former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who wants to boost the team’s midfield by making Rodriguez one of his top-priority signings.

According to a report in the Daily Express, Real Madrid may agree to sell the 24-year-old playmaker, if Manchester United agree to pay a transfer fee of around £63 million.

James to add new dimension to Manchester United attack?

A lot was expected of the Colombian midfielder, but he is yet to deliver on the promises in the demanding conditions at Real Madrid. Thus, a move to the red side of Manchester could work out in favour of both Rodriguez and Manchester United.

Juan Mata, who is supposed to be the chief at the heart of the Manchester United midfield, has failed to live up to the billing this season. He has also not had good relations with Mourinho, who might take over at the club if Van Gaal is sacked.

Rodriguez could be the perfect replacement for Mata in the no.10 role, as he has been impressive with his national side. The stats below clearly point out that Rodriguez has had a much better season at the Bernabeu than Mata at Old Trafford, in spite of not being favoured as much as he would have liked by the management.
