Kompany injury has Manchester City fans distraught despite progression to Champions League last eight [Best Tweets]

Manchester City qualified for the last eight of the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever, but the recurrence of captain Vincent Kompany’s calf injury dampened the Citizens’ spirits considerably.

Manchester City progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 3-1 aggregate win over Dynamo Kiev. The second leg at the Etihad ended in a goalless draw, but the unfortunate highlight of the night for Manuel Pellegrini’s side was the injury to captain Vincent Kompany just six minutes into the game.

The Chilean confirmed after the match that it was a recurrence of the calf injury that has seen the Belgian miss most of this season. Understandably, City fans were distraught to hear the news, particularly with an all-important derby against Manchester United coming up on Sunday.

Rival supporters and neutrals, however, found humour in the situation, and took to social media site Twitter to express it.
