Liverpool have suffered a blow with the penalty shoot-out loss to Manchester City in the League Cup final, and the Reds are expected to revamp their side this summer, with Mario Gotze being heavily tipped to rejoin former manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German sensation had been struggling with a hamstring injury this season, and has recently gotten back to full fitness. The injury has kept him out of the team for most of the season, and it has been a rather frustrating time for the 23-year-old.

However, Liverpool boss Klopp is reportedly not too satisfied with the squad he currently has at his disposal, and wants an overhaul in the summer.

Also, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are said to be backing Klopp to the hilt on this issue, as they have given him the green light to go ahead and sign up the German star, according to Daily Mail.

Reds may get to bargain for Gotze

While the departure of Pep Guardiola might mean that many of the stars who are currently plying their trade at Bayern Munich may also be willing to leave, it might be a different scenario for Gotze. The 23-year-old was brought over from Dortmund in 2013, as he was (and still is) one of the best young players from the country. Also, the fact that Gotze’s extra time goal won Germany the World Cup in 2014, has made him a bit of a hero among the fans there. This is one of the big reasons why Bayern may be reluctant to let him go.

Gotze is currently rated at around €37 million by Transfermarkt. However, the Bavarians might have to let him go at a cheaper price, as his current contract runs out at the end of 2017.

Klopp to overhaul squad?

Reports from the English media suggest that the Reds could let many of their current players go for free when their contracts run out at the end of the season. Some of these players may even be sold, as Klopp goes in search for players who would suit his dynamic style of play better.

The likes of Kolo Toure, Jose Enrique, Jon Flanagan and Joao Teixeira are all set to be out of a contract by the end of the season and will become free agents in the summer, according to reports. However, club captain Jordan Henderson has stuck his neck out for Flannagan, saying that he has made an impressive comeback from a lengthy injury and should get a new contract.

Among the others who are tipped to move away from the Anfield club are midfielder Joe Allen, and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
