Roberto Firmino has been rested once again, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson return as Liverpool get set to take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The Liverpool boss has made a couple of changes in defence. The first sees Trent Alexander-Arnold replace Joe Gomez in the right-back slot, after the latter had been handed a surprise start against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg.

In the other change, Dejan Lovren comes into the side in place of Joel Matip, who is perhaps rested with the return leg against Barcelona in mind. Lovren will partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence, while Andrew Robertson completes the defensive line, which will provide cover to Alisson.

Klopp has selected three midfielders instead of the surprising four-man unit earlier this week, with James Milner dropping down to the bench, while Naby Keita is done for the season. Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is one of the changes, while Daniel Sturridge is part of the final shuffle, which signals a return to the 4-3-3.

Henderson has Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho for company in the middle of the park, while Sturridge is partnered by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the attacking unit. Roberto Firmino, meanwhile, has been rested once again, possibly with one eye on the Champions League semi-final second leg.
