Argentine superstar Lionel Messi scored a hattrick as Barcelona romped to a 7-0 win over Celtic at Nou Camp.
The fixture was billed as a tight and close affair with a possible upset on the cards. While Celtic had just thrashed their arch-rivals Rangers in the Old Firm derby, Barcelona had just been handed a shock defeat by newly promoted side Deportivo Alaves.
But Barcelona had no problems in sweeping aside Celtic at Nou Camp to kick off their Champions League campaign with a bang as a hapless Brendan Rodgers saw his side succumb to a 7-0 defeat.
Lionel Messi scored a marvellous hattrick while also providing an assist in the match as the trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar ran riot over a ragged Celtic defence who had no answer for the Blaugranes’ blissful playing style.
