Xavi Backs FC Barcelona To Repeat Treble Success

Former FC Barcelona midfielder and legendary playmaker Xavi has said that the Spanish and European champions are capable of repeating their treble-winning feat from last year.

FC Barcelona became the first team to win the treble of the domestic league, cup, and the European Cup twice when they repeated the feat they had achieved in 2008-09, last season.

Xavi was a key player in the 08-09 side, but had a restricted role last season as age started to catch up with the legendary playmaker.

He has moved on to Qatar to play out the remainder of his career.

Xavi backs Barca to repeat treble success

Xavi has backed FC Barcelona to now become the first team to win back-to-back treble.

The 35-year old now plying his trade for Qatari club Al Sadd was quoted saying by Goal.com: “They’ve got the team to do it. They’ve got a magnificent coach in Luis Enrique, who is a real perfectionist, very methodical and a good leader.

“And right now, Barca boast the best players in the world.

“It will be difficult to achieve but I wish, from the bottom of my heart that they go on to win the Champions League and every other success they can achieve.”

FC Barcelona have won their opening two games in the La Liga and will travel to Vicente Calderon to take on Atletico Madrid in a crunch tie over the weekend.

Atletico have also won their opening two games and will be hoping to dent Barcelona’s pursuit of the league title by beating them at home to avenge the 1-0 loss from last season.
