FC Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi was left angry and distraught with himself having missed a penalty on the opening day fixture against Athletic Bilbao.
FC Barcelona went on to win the game 1-0 courtesy of a Luis Suarez stunner. The Catalan giants had the opportunity to exact revenge on the Basque outfit but Messi missed his penalty. Bilbao brought an end to FC Barcelona’s dream of a second sextuple earlier in the week, when they beat the Blaugrana 5-1 on aggregate in the Supercopa de Espana.

In their last visit to San Mames, the Catalan giants suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to an Aritz Aduriz inspired Athletic Bilbao. However, this time around, FC Barcelona were able to better the Los Leones in their own backyard, even though Lionel Messi missed a penalty in what turned out to be a close contest.
Lionel Messi for all his greatness has never been that comfortable when it comes to penalties and it shows in his track record. The Argentine striker has missed 14 out of his 63 penalties for FC Barcelona , till date.
