Speaking after Manchester Uniteda s 3-0 win over Everton, manager Louis van Gaal warned Memphis Depay to adapt to his philosophy or risk leaving the club next summer. Citing Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao as examples, the Dutchman made it clear that his players had to a fit ina with his philosophy if they wanted to continue at the club.

Memphis Depay was left on the bench as Manchester United cruised to a comfortable win against Everton at Goodison Park. The Dutchman has come in for sharp criticism of late and it seems that his manager is not pleased with his recent efforts.

Quality is not enough, players must also be dedicated

As reported by The Telegraph, Van Gaal warned Depay that being talented was not enough, reminding him of the fate shared by Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao earlier this summer. The manager also claimed that he has no way of knowing if a player can adapt to the team philosophy before completing the transfer.

a Some players cannot adapt to the team philosophy. That you cannot know in advance.

a That also happened with A?ngel di Mar a and Falcao a both great players but you have to fit in with the philosophy. Not only with Memphis, with every player that we have bought.a

Depay could be on his way out next summer if he doesna t adapt to the philosophy

Louis Van Gaala s message to the Dutch international seems to be loud and clear — adapt or leave the club. Angel Di Maria came in for criticism during his stay at Old Trafford and eventually the Argentine decided to take matters in his own hands as he forced a move to PSG. Radamel Falcao too stayed on at United for only one season as he now looks to earn favours at Chelsea.

a Some players cannot adapt to the team philosophy.”

While Depaya s arrival was lauded by both the manager and the fans alike, his recent performances have left a lot to be desired. The former PSV Eindhoven winger was instrumental during Manchester Uniteda s play-off tie against Club Brugge in the Champions League. However, picked ahead of Ashley Young this season, Uniteda s new number 7 has so far failed to live up to his billing.
