Chelsea FC captain John Terry has called the Blues’ nightmare season ‘bizarre’, admitting that it will be very difficult for the team to reach their desired level this season
After reaching the halfway point of the season, Premier League champions Chelsea FC find themselves at a remarkable 14th place, languishing a full 15 points off the top 4, and 19 points off first-placed Arsenal FC.
The Blues’ skipper has vowed to fight to turn things around in the second half of the season, but has acknowledged that reaching a league position that would be acceptable for a team of Chelsea FC’s quality will be difficult.
Terry bemoans ‘bizarre’ league season
Nobody could possibly have predicted that the incumbent champions would find themselves in the bottom half of the table on New Year’s day, and former England captain John Terry was also at a loss to explain his side’s position.
Speaking to Chelsea TV, Terry said (via ESPN): “I think it has been bizarre. Being among it has been really difficult and that is credit to teams you wouldn’t expect to win games throughout the year improving their squads and improving individuals.
“It’s now down to us as a group and a club to step up and go again to that next level where we want to be.
“This year it’s probably too far to go, but the season after that and long when I have gone we have set the levels and we need to keep that year after year.”
Huge pressure on Chelsea FC first-team next season
John Terry’s current contract at the club expires at the end of the season, and the Englishman will be free to speak to other clubs next month. However, the Blues must do everything in their power to keep him at the club — even if it is not in a playing capacity.

The lack of leadership within the current team has been a big concern among fans, with the side being compared to manager Guus Hiddink’s previous Blues team which included the likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Petr A?ech, Michael Ballack and Michael Essien.
Given how the season has transpired thus far, and the fact that very little can be salvaged from it in terms of league position, there will be immense pressure on the Chelsea FC team to get back to the ‘normal’ level next season. The presence of Terry will make it that much easier to achieve.
