Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos claims to prefer the Premier League more with each passing day to fuel exit rumours.
Real Madrid lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid to mark their second consecutive defeat of the week after losing to Valencia at the weekend. The defeat has practically killed Los Blancosa chances of retaining the Copa Del Rey as they with a huge task to overturn the defeat in the home leg next week.
Atleticoa s first game came off a Raul Garcia penalty, not surprisingly conceded by Sergio Ramos who also received a yellow card for the challenge. Ramos was clearly disappointed and has reacted to the decision by suggesting that a Premier League referee wouldna t have called that one.
“I’m not going to talk about controversial issues and certainly not that incident,” he told AS. “The only thing I will say is that, with every passing day, I prefer the English Premier League.
“What am I talking about? Obviously not about the ball-boys … the style of play, refereeing. People enjoy watching that competition. When one loses, ita s easy to focus on the refereeing decisions.”
Ramosa comments come at a time when the rumour mills are working overtime linking the Spanish defender with a move away from Real Madrid with Manchester United and Arsenal believed to be front-runners in acquiring the 28-year old.
The Andalusian is contracted to play for Real Madrid till 2017 and it is believed that negotiations between the player and the club for a new contract have come to a standstill. Former Real Madrid sporting director Arrigo Sacchi recently revealed Ramos himself had told him that president Florentino Perez is not prepared to meet his wage expectations.
Ramos was quick to deny those comments insisting that a new deal will be agreed upon soon and assured that he intends to stay with the European champions.
“I have a lot of affection and respect for [Sacchi] — he was an important person when I signed for Madrid. I was with him a long time [but] I explained in my tweet: I do not do things for money. I never have” Ramos said.
“In this sense it depends on my happiness, and that of the president. I do not believe there will be any type of problem to reach an agreement.
“My agent is there for that, to communicate with the club. I have a few years left on my contract, and my intention is to stay at the team that has given me almost everything.a
While Ramosa comments can be suggestive, it does not seem like the defender is suggesting at a move to the Premier League. The comments seem more like a taunt aimed at the La Liga referees.
