Rafa Benitez Fears Real Madrid CF May Not Recover ‘Mentally’ From El Clasico Humiliation

.

After being thrashed 4-0 in front of their home crowd in the El Clasico against FC Barcelona, manager Rafa Benitez now fears that his Real Madrid CF might not be able to recover mentally ahead of the next match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

It was absolute carnage at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night as FC Barcelona shot into an early lead with Luis Suarez firing in the opening goal on the 11th minute. Real Madrid CF tried to respond to that, but soon went 2-0 down to a Neymar goal at half time.

While the Los Blancos did start the second half pretty well, Barca soon started controlling the match again, scoring a couple more to end the humiliation. This was Bemitez’s first Clasico and it is not something that he would like to remember.

“We need to get over this result and focus on the next match as soon as possible,” he was quoted as saying by BBC. “What I’m most concerned about now is getting the team to recover mentally in time for the next match.”

Real Madrid off the pace in La Liga race

This loss not only leaves the Los Blancos mentally wounded, but they have also been left a massive six points adrift of FC Barcelona on the La Liga table and it will be a task to recover from the position they’re in, given Barca’s trailblazing form.

There might yet be more misery in store for the Madridistas as their cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid now have the chance of overtaking them if they beat Real Betis on Sunday night.
