Chelsea FC manager Jos Mourinho believes his side put in a good performance against Porto in their 2-1 defeat at the EstA?dio do DragA?o on Tuesday, apart from two game-changing mistakes
The Blues continue their poor start to the season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of FC Porto in their UEFA Champions League Group G fixture, with the English side now third in the group ahead of the consecutive fixtures against FC Dynamo Kyiv.
Jos Mourinho believes his side put in a good performance, but were undone by two ‘ridiculous’ mistakes. Andr Andr gave the Portuguese side a first-half lead after smashing in a rebound from a Yacine Brahimi shot, while defender Maicon headed in the decisive goal at the near post from a corner.
Mourinho not happy with the manner of goals conceded
Speaking after the game, the Chelsea FC manager expressed his annoyance at conceding a goal from a corner, despite studying FC Porto’s set-pieces ahead of the game. Mourinho is quoted by the club’s official website as saying:
“It was a good performance with two ridiculous mistakes. Sometimes you make those mistakes and you are not punished, we were punished. With the second goal ita s a ridiculous mistake.
“We watched dozens of repetitions of Porto taking corners, I thought we were completely ready for that and at a moment when the game was under control and we were preparing to make a change we conceded that goal.
“We had another similar mistake when they hit the post. Apart from that I thought we had balance, defensively we had no problems and the defenders played well.”

Mourinho had been threatening to axe some of his under-performing stars, and followed through with the threat after deciding not to take Brazilian midfielder Oscar, as well as strikers Radamel Falcao and LoA?c R my to Portugal for the game against FC Porto. Regulars Eden Hazard and Nemanja Mati were also left on the bench, as was captain John Terry.
The Blues’ boss said after the game (via chelseafc.com): “When the team is not winning on a regular basis ita s normal you have to make changes. Games like tonight are the difficult ones to analyse and make decisions after because the result doesna t mean you played badly, the mistakes we made twice doesna t mean the team defended badly.
“When ita s a disaster ita s easier to make decisions. We have to find balance. We now have two home games in the Premier League and we need to try to get good results. Good feelings, happiness, self-esteem, the players need those to play and when luck goes against you ita s difficult to have those feelings.”
