More than a few eyebrows were raised when Chelsea FC decided to sign Colombian international Radamel Falcao on loan after his poor season with Manchester Untied, but Mourinho is confident the former Porto striker has the motivation to be successful with the Blues
Jos Mourinho has already begun preparations for the defence of the Blues’ Premier League crown, and Colombian international Radamel Falcao is due to join up for pre-season this week, after a disappointing Copa Am rica with Colombia.
Although the former Atl tico Madrid striker had a torrid time with Manchester United in 2014-2015 and struggled to get on the scoresheet regularly, John Terry and Gary Cahill reportedly had a difficult time containing Falcao in Chelsea’s narrow win at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho spoke to Terry and Cahill before signing Falcao
The Blues’ boss has evidently done his homework thoroughly before making the decision to sign Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco. Part of that, it seems, was to discuss the Colombian striker with his first-choice centre-back pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill, who came up against Falcao last season.
Mourinho is quoted by England’s Mail Online as saying: “I spoke with John Terry and Gary Cahill a lot about him. And we think the bright movement is there, the movement to get freedom in the box to score goals is there.
“Our players had difficulty to control him all the time and we feel the potential is there.”

That sort of movement is ideal for the likes of Cesc F bregas and Eden Hazard, both of whom have the passing ability and intelligence to read that movement and play perfectly-timed early balls in to the striker making the run. It is, in part, the reason Diego Costa had such a successful d but season with the Blues, and it will no doubt help Falcao next term.
Falcao out to prove a point
Radamel Falcao might not be the fearsome striker that he was at Porto or Atl tico Madrid, but his hunger and motivation have certainly not been affected by his loss of form. It is that motivation that Mourinho believes could help the Colombian be successful at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking from the Blues’ pre-season training base in Montreal, Mourinho said: “When you are not a top player, I think you never feel frustrated. You are not a top player, you have to live with this all through your career and you adapt to it. We felt his frustration. He is not happy that in England people think he is not as good as he is and his motivation is there.
“He did a lot of things to come to us. He lost money to come to us, he didn’t want to listen to other offers. He helped us a lot to do a deal with Monaco. So all these things together we think we can help him and he can help us.”
Chelsea fans will be hoping that the confidence Mourinho has in El Tigre will help the striker get back to somewhere near his best as the Blues look to defend their Premier League crown and improve on their performance in the Champions League.
The Colombian’s first appearance in Blue colours is likely to be on the 29th of July when the Premier League champions take on treble winners Barcelona at the FedEx Field stadium in Washington D.C.
