Manuel Pellegrini Expresses Mixed Emotions After 0-0 Stalemate At Old Trafford

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini had mixed emotions after the Manchester Derby, as the spoils were shared at Old Trafford in a 0-0 stalemate.

Manchester City returned to the top of the table with a hard-fought point against Manchester United on Sunday, and although Pellegrini was satisfied with his side’s defensive display, the City boss has demanded more from his players in attack. Nicolas Otamendi and skipper Vincent Kompany were highly impressive, as they were both rock solid in central defence.

The Chilean does not want to take the ‘easy’ way out

“I am satisfied with a point but I don’t like to play in this way. That’s way I say it’s easy to play that way. It’s important to have a point here, another point in the table, but I don’t think it’s the way the team must play.”, Pelligrini said in the post match press conference.

. On what he didn’t like

“Not to have good possession in the second half as we did in the first. But I repeat it’s a difficult team and we’re playing away. If you can’t win it then don’t lose it by not concentrating.”

Pellegrini’s concern is justified, as Manchester City have always opted to play an attacking brand of football in their pursuit of the title. Although Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi ( man of the match ) were flawless in central defence, City were losing too many balls ahead. But if the noisy neighbours want the title back, they need to start outscoring teams, rather than just containing the opposition.
