Manchester United Youngster Gets England Call Up

Manchester United fans will be delighted to hear that their 22-year-old winger, Jesse Lingard, has been called up to the England squad for their next game against France.

This has probably been the greatest week in Jesse Lingard’s life — he started off by scoring his first goal for Manchester United against West Bromwich Albion, and now he’s been called up to the England squad, according to ESPN. Life doesn’t get any better for Lingard.

The English under-21 international has become a regular at Louis van Gaal’s United team after the big hype surrounding new signing Memphis Depay did not translate into performances, and he found himself on the bench. Juan Mata was also having some trouble fitting into a position that he is not naturally used to playing in, and Lingard took this chance to put in some good performances as United’s right-winger.

Manchester United posted this tweet earlier today.

Injury Woes For Ailing England

England manager Roy Hodgson has had to deal with injuries to several squad players like Alex-Oxlaide Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and EPL top scorer Jamie Vardy. The latest of these injuries came in the match against Spain as Michael Carrick was stretchered off the pitch.

The friendly against France is scheduled to happen in a tense atmosphere following the tragic events in Paris, but should provide a great match between two big sides in Europe, and provide young talent like Lingard an opportunity to prove themselves on the big stage.
