Manchester United have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign their Argentine Star Nicolas Gaitin according to Di Marzio.

The Argentine international appears set to leave Benfica for a while now and it appears a deal between the player and United has finally been struck although the club is locked into negotiations for a fee with Benfica.

Gaitin has been constantly linked every summer with a move to Manchester United since 2012. But, the saga could reach a conclusion this summer if Benfica are not unreasonable in their demands.

It is understood that Nani plus cash could be offered to Benfica to part with Gaitan but reports in Portuguese media are doing the rounds that Manchester Uniteda are prepared to offer a 30m.

Manchester United’s chase for a winger is well documented with the links to Liverpool FC’s Raheem Sterling refusing to die down.

Gaitin has turned in a number of eye catching performances for Benfica on their way to the Portuguese league title. With manager Jorge Jesus set to leave for Sporting Lisbon, Gaitin has more than one reason to leave the Lisbon side, now.

Manchester United can do with the pace, dribbling and the crossing ability of the player. However, with Di Maria, Mata, Depay, Young, and Janujaz, one wonders why exactly are United chasing a wide player.

There are reports that Di Maria is unsettled at Old Trafford and could be sold. Depay could be played centrally than out wide. That leaves only Mata, Young, and Adnan Janujaz prompting Manchester United to once again dip into the market for a wide player.

With United announcing record profits of 159 million Euros, and the new sponsorship deals kicking in, funds are there for the English giants to sign top players. Which makes the link to Gaitin even more strange.
