Louis Van Gaal Willing To Sell David De Gea, Manchester United Board Not Interested

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is of the opinion that there’s no point in keeping an unhappy player like David De Gea at the club, according to Spanish daily AS.

The Manchester United shot-stopper has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, however, it was claimed that the Red Devils were unwilling to sell the shot-stopper. The Old Trafford based out-fit are prepared to lose close to A?25 million in transfer fee’s as they are willing to hold on to the Spaniard for the remainder of his contract which expires in 2016.

It is believed that the English giants are irked by Real Madrid’s pursuit of players who are either Manchester United players or targets, and want to see a change in this trend.

Louis van Gaal believes that the goalkeeper has his heart set at a move to Real Madrid and holding on to him will do no good to the club. However, the Manchester United hierarchy do not share this opinion and believe that they have a better shot at a trophy with the Spaniard than without him. Ed Woordward and company remain adamant they they won’t give into the demands of the Spanish club, having already lost star winger Cristiano Ronaldo to them a couple of years ago.

According to the Spanish daily AS, as reported by 101greatgoals, the sales of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham are still fresh in the minds of the Red Devils hierarchy. Holding on to David De Gea has more to do with honour than anything else.

What next for Manchester United and David De Gea?

The 24-year-old joined Manchester United four years ago, but is still on a A?60,000-a-week deal, which he had signed on his arrival at Old Trafford. The Red Devils had paid around A?17.8 million for the transfer of the Spanish international from Atletico Madrid and the Spaniard wanted to return to his home country ever since. The 24-year-old failed to settle in the lifestyle of the English Premier League in his four years with the Manchester club.

The Spaniard has won the Manchester United player-of-the-season award on two occasions after a series of excellent performances between the sticks. The Red devils have signed Argentine international goal-keeper Sergio Romero from AS Monaco for cover, in-case De Gea leaves this summer.
