In a dramatic finale to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, both sides exchanged the lead several times on the night in a topsy turvy encounter at the Volkswagon Arena in Leverkusen.
Wolfsburg and PSV Eindhoven make their way into the knockout stages of the tournament while United crash out of Europe’s premier football competition.

Speaking to the media after his side’s Champions League elimination, a visibly shocked Louis Van Gaal admitted that criticism of his side’s performances in Europe this season was fair.
“At the moment I cannot defend myself because we are out of the Champions League,a said Van Gaal (as reported by the Guardian). a Every word I say is the wrong word.”
“When you see the facts we went further in the Capital One Cup, we qualified for the Champions League group and we have played all these matches and we are still in a very good position in the Premier League. The facts do say we are better than last year.”

Commenting on United’s European campaign on the whole, Van Gaal said, “It was a crazy match. Two times we gave away a goal within two minutes of scoring and thata s difficult to understand when we defend so well normally.”
“This was a tight group so I do not agree that this was an easy group. Now ita s over. Ia ve said to the players: a You cannot show your qualities any more in the Champions League. Ita s the highest podium and you cana t do that. You have to wait until next year.a Ita s a pity but we have a lot to fight for a the FA Cup and the Premier League.”

Manchester United’s fledgling European campaign finally came to an end as they were dumped out of the competition after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg at the Volkswagon Arena on Tuesday.
Many blame Louis Van Gaal’s pragmatic ways for United’s insipid displays in front of goal throughout their European campaign. With a final goal difference of zero, Manchester United end up as one of the lowest goalscorers in the tournament, scoring just seven times in six matches.
After losing to PSV Eindhoven away from home on Matchday 1, United eeked out two narrow home wins over Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow to give their fans some hopes of qualification. However, a dour and utterly uninspiring 0-0 draw against PSV at Old Trafford on Matchday 5 left United needing a win over Wolfsburg in Germany in their final match of the group stages.
